Depending on whether a parking ticket or penalty charge is issued directly to you or sent to us here at Onto, there are different processes to follow – as we explain further below.
Please note that parking tickets can also be called parking fines, parking penalty charges or penalty charge notices. Furthermore, a penalty charge notice can also be issued to drivers because of driving offences such as:
- driving in a bus lane
- driving in a cycle lane
- stopping in a yellow box junction
- going the wrong way down a one-way street
- not giving way to oncoming drivers
When you receive a ticket or penalty charge directly
If you’ve been given a ticket or penalty charge directly or it was left on your car windscreen, we suggest you take the following steps:
- Contact the issuer as soon as possible and either pay the fine or challenge it.
- Don’t ignore it, as any delays may lead to an increase in the amount due.
When we receive your ticket or penalty charge
If your ticket or penalty charge is sent to Onto, we’ll email you about it and attach a copy of the documentation that we received. We’ll then take the following steps:
- Attempt to transfer the ticket/penalty to your name and address, meaning you can pay or challenge it yourself.
- If we’re unable to do this, we will pay the fine ourselves then charge you for the costs we’ve incurred.
We charge an admin fee
Please note that we will charge you a £15 fee when we receive or handle your ticket/penalty. This covers the cost of admin and correspondence.
